Crawford Area Scholarships, Inc. was formed as a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation in 1999. Our goal is to help area students continue their educations by providing merit-based scholarship grants. To further that goal, Crawford Area Scholarships became the area affiliate of the Dollars for Scholars® program of ScholarshipAmericaTM.
Dollars for Scholars® is a national network of over 1,100 grassroots community based volunteer driven scholarship foundations in cities, towns, and neighborhoods across the United States.
As the local affiliate, Crawford Area Scholarships affords local students access to funding programs and information available through the Scholarship AmericaTM resources.
Over 450 collegiate partners of the Dollars for Scholars® offer special consideration to students who receive scholarship awards from this organization. These considerations include matching grants that may double the award a student receives. In other cases, the student's financial package will be adjusted by reducing the amount of student loans or hours of work-study required to meet tier financial requirements.
Local Scholarship Program
Crawford Area Scholarships offers merit based scholarship grants to graduating seniors from any high school located in Crawford County, PA. Students with a 3.2 minimum GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) are invited to apply.
Application packets are mailed to every school within Crawford County in January of each year and should be available from the guidance councilor or principal of your school. If you are not able to obtain an application from your school one may be downloaded from this web-site.(CLICK HERE)
The number of grants available and their amounts will be announced each year within the application package and here on this web site.
2011 Scholarship Grants
The 2011 grant program will award four (4) $1,000.00 grants. To download an application click on the buttom above or in the upper left. The application period for this program end on April 15th, 2011.
Applications that are received after this date will not be considered. However, other programs may remain open. You may explore those opportunities by visiting the Dollars for Scholars® website.
How are Grant Winners Chosen?
Applications are reviewed and scored according to a comprehensive grading matrix by a committee of volunteers. Members of the selection committee are chosen each year from the community. Anyone wishing to be part of the selection process may express interest by sending an e-mail or calling to discuss the opportunity.
Board members of Crawford Area Scholarships, Inc. are not part of this committee and do not select scholarship recipients.
